In a big relief to thousands of new home buyers, the housing ministry has extended coverage of interest subsidy under PM Awas Yojna (PMAY) to property falling under any part of a development authority and planning area, including rural areas, industrial belts and even rural pockets within special economic zones (SEZs).
Home buyers can get the interest subsidy of around Rs 2.3 lakh. The modified guidelines were issued recently. TOI on December 2 had first reported that the ministry was working on the proposal to increase its coverage. The changes have been made following complaints from home buyers who had alleged that some of the banks were not approving loan applications under the interest subsidy scheme in certain areas in about 100 cities.
Areas falling within notified planning or development area under the jurisdiction of an industrial development authority or special area development authority or urban development authority or any such body under state legislation that is entrusted with the functions of urban planning and regulations shall also be included for coverage under PMAY(U), the amended guidelines said.
"The beneficiaries in the permanent wait list of PMAY (G) will have the flexibility for opting for a house under PMAY(G) or PMAY (U)," the notification said. The benefits of all existing and future rural schemes will not be denied to a beneficiary who would avail a house under this amendment, it added.
After the launch of the Centre for Entrepreneurship Opportunities and Learning (CEOL) in Mangaluru, the NITI Aayog will soon give the innovation hub tag to the premier technical institutions NIT-K, Surathkal and NMAMIT, Karkala.
This was announced during defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman's recent visit to the city to inaugurate CEOL. Apart from this, these oldest technical institutions in the coastal districts have been chosen as India's first start-up districts with incubators by the ministry of commerce and industry.
"NMAMIT, Karkala, and NIT-K, Surathkal, will jointly execute a couple of projects under this programme, while they will also execute some independent ones. Senior professors from the country's premier technical institutions will lend their support for proper execution of the projects," Karanam Uma Maheshwar Rao, director, NIT-K, Surathkal, told TOI.
The first project that NIT-K will be working on, is to make methanol as an alternative fuel, and in related areas. The ground work for it was prepared during the recently-held national conference on internal combustion engines and combustion, at the campus. It was attended by V K Saraswat, member of NITI Aayog and former chief of DRDO, and Sanjiv Singh, chairman, Indian Oil Corporation.
Speaking on having additional infrastructure for innovation and start-ups, Rao added that the recent announcement of a Higher Education Funding Agency (HEFA), has additional benefits for the institute to utilize the opportunity to the maximum, where finance is not a roadblock. "We are focusing on infrastructure, wherein it houses modernized equipment, aiding in research and innovation," Rao pointed out.
Apart from an innovation hub, NMAMIT and NIT-K, Surathkal, have also been chosen as India's first start-up districts with incubators, by the ministry of commerce and industry. Connectivity (air, road, sea and rail), presence of several education institutions, state-of-art facilities, student resources and infrastructure, were key factors to get these institutions selected for the centre.

KCWA has taken up yet another noble cause to help the mentally challenged and physically disabled children who are belonging to the poorest families of our society. The impact of a child's disability on their quality of life is very much dependent on the way other individuals treat them. It is unfortunate; many of such disabled children are placed away from home, some are just lying on the mats need lot more to survive and sadly, some are prone to violence. If these vulnerable special needs children are provided with proper care and support surely they can live a normal human life.
Khain Properties had the privilege to become a partner with KCWA in their noble cause to support the most vulnerable children of our society. KCWA has organized “KALA SANZ”, a cultural program, on 23rd January 2015 at American International School, Kuwait from 04:30 PM onwards. The program includes 4 hours non-stop entertainment by popular singers, rib-tickling jokes by famous comedians from Kuwait and foot tapping dances,for which Khain Properties was the main sponsor.
The event was put together in support of the mentally challenged and physically disabled children, restore hope, and give new choices and path for better life. The amount generated from this event would go in support of building a new school to provide basic training and rehabilitation of Children with disabilities at VIMUKTHI (Care, Support, and Rehabilitation of the Differently Abled Children) Dayalbagh Ashram, Ujire, Belthangady, Karnataka, India.
